Threads Clothing Boutique is Gloria Dei’s free clothing shelf - stocked with only gently used or new items. Anyone who needs clothing is welcome to come during open hours.
Threads is our way of “clothing our community with welcome and dignity.” We often say “all are welcome” at Gloria Dei, and we want everyone who comes to Threads to feel like they are truly welcome. We also believe that valuing others means honoring their sense of dignity, and one way of doing that is to help people feel good about what they wear.
Threads is located in the lower level of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church: 1212 12th Ave NW, Rochester, MN 55901
Can you help?
Donate
Are you done with clothes that are still in good condition? Are you good at finding bargains when you shop? Do you ever think of “buying one more” when you shop - one for yourself and one for someone else? Threads would not be possible without generous donations from people who care and want to share! Check out the list here of specific needs.
Donations are welcome any time the church is open! Please place them downstairs at the entrance to Threads (at the bottom of the stairs when you enter Door 1 by the lower parking lot).
If you have any questions, please contact us via the form below.
-
Our most requested items - and the hardest to keep in stock - are underwear and socks (for all sizes and ages). We can only accept new underwear and socks; please keep them in their original packaging.
-
We take new and gently-used casual clothing for all sizes and ages, birth to adult. Please make sure it is free from stains, tears, or other signs of serious wear and tear.
During the fall and winter, outer clothing is especially needed (coats, snowpants, boots, hats, gloves, etc.)
Because we have limited storage space, we can only accept clothing that is appropriate for the current season. If you have winter clothes (in spring and summer) or summer clothes (in fall and winter), please consider holding on to them for now and donating them in a few months!
-
New and gently used towels, sheets, and blankets are always needed. Sheets and blankets should be for twin or full/queen-sized beds.
-
In addition to clothing, Threads offers basic hygiene items such as deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner, laundry detergent, etc.
Volunteer
Volunteers help us run Threads by folding and hanging clothes, helping guests find what they need, keeping the space clean, etc. Older children are welcome if accompanied by a responsible adult.
-
Threads is open on the first Saturday of each month from 10am - 12pm. Can you volunteer on Saturday mornings, either regularly or occasionally?
-
Sometimes our regular volunteers can’t come. Can you cover for them occasionally?
-
Weekly volunteers come one day each week during open hours. Contact us below to inquire about current needs for weekly volunteers.
