We value our Youth
We long to be the kind of community that makes faith “sticky” and long lasting for our children and youth. We value families worshiping together to experience compassion and grace. In all our programming for children and youth, we strive to create community through relationships with caring adults and their peers.
Middle School Youth
Confirmation meets every Wednesday Night beginning with Water’s Edge Worship at 6:30p.m. in the Sanctuary. Our Confirmation program highlights worship as a family at Water’s Edge, small groups, service projects, and a LABS project that assists a local non-profit and enlists small groups to consider the parable of the talents.
About Krista Monson
Contributing Director of CYF Ministries
I have five years of previous ministry experience, both congregational and outdoor ministry. I enjoy making connections and encouraging everyone as beloved children of God. I look forward to making more connections and witnessing faith formation for all ages. As Contributing Director, I listen, watch, and discern where God is leading in our world today, and then translate that into programming and ministry here for children, youth, and families. One of my primary responsibilities is the Confirmation program for sixth through eighth graders.
Worship as a family on Wednesdays
Water's Edge is a contemplative service designed to center ourselves in the middle of our busy weeks. Inspired by the families and individuals that gather each week, Water's Edge features a message delivered by a leader and a youth, contemplative practices such as meditation and a singing bowl, and acoustic music.
Small Groups. Time for youth to be with their peers and a caring adult to discuss and share life highlights and struggles, as well as dig deeper into learning moments.
Confirmation Sunday (Affirmation of Baptism) commonly held October of ninth grade year.
Summer Mission Trip. Sixth through eighth grade youth are invited to journey on a week long service trip to a location within a 4-6 hour drive. We commonly work with Youthworks, learning about urban issues and serving the community through local non-profit organizations. Past locations include: Chicago, Kansas City, Quad Cities, Rapid City, Milwaukee, and Green Bay.
High School Youth
Gloria Dei Youth Group (GDYG) meets every Wednesday Night when there’s school, at 7:17 pm. GDYG is a time where we come and be in community, no matter if you’re having the best day or the worst day. Our time together is filled with asking questions, talking about the ups and downs of life as a teenager, serving the greater Rochester community and sometimes simply eating ice cream. Outside of Wednesday Nights, there are many opportunities to engage through retreats, worship, occasional weekend activities and summer trips. If you’re looking for a welcoming community, come to GDYG!
About D.J. (David John) Chatelaine
I grew up in Owatonna, I graduated from Duke University with a degree in Religion & Political Science and minor in History. I’ve carried with me the many lessons and experiences from the people I met and places I encountered. To me, ministry is about creating a welcoming place for people to be who they are. We all have different stories, experiences, perspectives that can be challenging but at the same time enrich our lives together. In my free time, I enjoy exercising, cooking, baking, making and listening to music, reading, sporadically watching Netflix, finding fantastic restaurants, or simply being in the great outdoors.
