Worship is a core value in the life and spiritual journey of our congregational community. Our hearts, minds, and spirits long to gather with others to thank and praise God for the gifts of God’s presence, compassion, and love. When we gather together for worship, we feel reconnected to God, each other, and the larger world around us.

What might be unique about this core value at Gloria Dei stems from our diverse approach to ministry, lived out in worship through a variety of worship expressions in two different worship venues.

Worship Descriptions

EpicOneEight

EpicOneEight takes place in our Worship Center. Worship at EpicOneEight is experiential and highly participatory, community focused and Christ centered. We seek to engage all of our senses as we participate in worship through conversational sermons, engaging music, guided activities, and rituals. The use of images, movie clips and objects in worship are important to us as they help us connect with the heart of the day’s lessons. Finally, worship is something that happens best when the community gathers and we rely on one another to help us connect with God. When we wrap up our time with each other on Sunday morning, we are sent to serve in our broader community. We are all encouraged to serve and volunteer our time with those in need as the hands, feet and heart of Christ in the community. Some themes this year include Sabbath and rest, ‘Christianese,’ and Parts of Worship.

Legacy

Legacy is our traditional worship expression with weekly themes based on the Revised Common Lectionary.  Legacy uses liturgical settings and hymns from the Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnal, and is enhanced by the presence of our vocal and hand bell choirs and organ. Legacy provides a warm and welcoming worship experience that has been treasured by Christians over the centuries.

Living Waters

Living Waters features a shorter, accessible 45 minute format that is based on a seasonal and less traditional liturgy.  The service has a more casual feel, with songs led by the piano.

Wednesday Night Worship

Water’s Edge

This school year marks the tenth season of Water’s Edge worship on Wednesday evenings!  Water’s Edge has provided our faith community with a weekly spiritual oasis: an opportunity to pause, reflect, and find rest for the journey.  Our worship includes darkness and candles that invite us into a more contemplative place.  We have learned to “turn down the volume of our minds so that we can turn up the volume of our hearts.”  During the month of January we’ll take a look at three stories from Jesus’ life that illustrate times of transition.  We’ll translate these stories into our own stories of change and transition by taking a look at the Transition Curve: examining endings in our lives and what we need to let go of; looking at the liminal space that comes in between our endings and new beginnings; and then looking at those new callings that God has in store for us.

Wednesday Night Summer Worship

Mid-Week Worship

Beginning in April and throughout the summer months, Water’s Edge takes on a new identity as Midweek Worship. This service is an informal 35-40 minute worship at 6pm in the Sanctuary designed for all ages and musically led by the piano or guitar. Communion is offered each week, and all three pastors lead worship on a rotating basis.
