To know and be known: this is our desire for every youth.

We believe we were created for love, to know God and be transformed by God so that we may give love away with life-changing influence. We choose to live in community together with peers and adults who are thoughtful, authentic, and born to change the world. Through life together, youth will experience a variety of opportunities to grow deep in learning and love, while reaching out wide impacting their world and beyond.

Some middle school programming requires a Youth Release Form. Please download the form and return the completed form to the church.

Wednesday Evenings

Confirmation
6th to 8th Graders – Returns September 2017
We’re tapping into our core values for our Youth experience on Wednesday nights:

1. Worship is Key: Research from The Fuller Youth Institute shows that the number one way to make faith last (make it “sticky”) for youth is regular worship attendance.
2. Develop a Web of Relationships: Fuller Youth Institute research also indicates the importance of developing connections with a web of at least five key people in order to make faith sticky.
3. Multi-Generational Community: We want to be the kind of place where generations bless one another. We are seeking intentional ways to build community and connection among the people who gather at Gloria Dei.

With these values in mind, we have updated the flow of our evenings for Confirmation.

A “typical night” would look like this:
5-6:30 pm – Dinner: Optional, but encouraged.
6:30 pm – Confirmation begins at Water’s Edge in Worship: Attend with families and small groups.
The core teaching of the evening will be heard in worship—this is key for the night.
7:15 pm – Small groups: Discuss the core teaching with mentors and peers.
8:00 pm – All done!

Throughout the year we will have periodic large group opportunities as well—times to play, do service work, make connections and grow community with all the other confirmation students. Our hope is to build on a strong tradition of Confirmation education, make faith “stickier” for new generations, and grow strong connections between our students and the broader faith community of Gloria Dei. We can’t wait to learn, grow and create this experience together!

Summer Mission Trip

This year we’ll be taking our Middle School Youth to Chicago for our annual Summer Mission Trip.  Sign up to day for the early bird rate and for an incredible experience for your middle school child to serve others make new friends and grow in their faith together.

Middle School Mission Trip to Chicago July 16-July 22

About Chicago:

Chicago is an amazingly diverse city made up of dozens and dozens of unique neighborhoods full of culture and opportunity. We are committed to serve this great city in ways that support and build up our partners in their unique contexts.

You may find yourself serving in a meal site or at a food pantry.  You may be a part of a team that does outreach to men and women who are homeless. You may join in the fun and energy of ministry with kids in a summer program.

Wherever you find yourself, you will fall in love with this city!  Of course, we’ll hit a few of the iconic city sights from the Bean and Lincoln Park Zoo to Buckingham Fountain – it will be a week you will not soon forget! Registration is closed for this trip.

Gloria Dei Auction

The Auction is our annual church-wide fundraiser to help offset the cost of the Summer Trips for Middle and High School Youth. In past years the auction has helped bring approx. $295 per participant.  Every participant wanting to receive auction proceeds towards their trip, must donate an auction item, and volunteer/participate with auction prep and the event to qualify for proceeds and attend our auction meeting. We also need donations from our congregation, as well as attendees! Be on the lookout for more information early 2018.
