Why I Love Community

By Jennifer Schnaedter

The main reason I love Community Camp is because it makes my family feel more connected to each other as well as to the wonderful Gloria Dei people. Attending Community Camp and interacting with other Gloria Dei members outside of church helps us strengthen personal bonds and forge a sense of belonging in this supportive, life-affirming church community that I cherish.

Another reason I love Community Camp is because the natural beauty of Good Earth Village (one of my favorite places on earth) makes me feel more connected to God. The picturesque expansive landscape views and star-filled night skies are wondrous sights to behold! I have the fondest childhood memories from attending camp there for years as a girl, and I love that now I am able to create more memories there with my kids.

I also love getting a “camping” experience, with creek splashing and singing around the camp fire, without all the usual work. Community Camp is an easy, affordable, and stress-free family vacation for us. And the past two years we’ve been lucky enough to stay in Log Lodge with beds and air-conditioning for sleeping comfort and indoor plumbing, which for me is priceless! My 6-year-old’s favorite part of the whole weekend is sleeping and playing with other kids on the bunk beds.

Lastly for me is that we enjoy all the fun activities we do together – for example: laser tag, badminton, ice breakers, board games and coloring, a movie, even a birthday cake and piñata. The closing outdoor worship service nestled amid God’s grandeur is the perfect end to a perfect weekend! These are the many reasons I look forward to the Community Camp every year.
