Talking Points
Water's Edge on Wednesday evenings are for the whole family. Below parents will find "Talking Points" ... or starters for conversations with your children on what they talked about in their activities. Each week we'll list the theme, coordinating Bible verse and a question that you can use to start a conversation with your child. This is a great way to continue on the lessons discussed here at Gloria Dei and apply them to your own home setting!

Module Theme:   Acts of Love

Session Theme: Welcoming Strangers

Scripture: James 2

Questions to ask your children:

  • What does the word “welcome” mean?
  • How do we welcome people into our home?  Church?  School?
  • When have you felt welcomed or not welcomed?

Confirmation for 6th-9th Graders

Theme: Holy Communion

Scripture: “The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a sharing in the body of Christ? Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread.” (I Corinthians 10:16-17)

Questions to ask your children:

  • Holy communion is the body and blood of Jesus given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins.” Share with your family what you remember about your first communion.
  • What does Holy Communion mean to you?
  • Why is it an important part of your walk of faith?

Theme:  Welcoming a Stranger.

  • We tend to do a nice job of welcoming those who we are already know and who attend the same church as us. How is God calling your family to welcome others outside of the church?
